Ralph’s Radio in Vancouver and Victoria offer ODX Automotive LED lighting upgrades so that you can see safely once the sun has set. Proper vehicle lighting is the No. 1 safety concern in the dark. If you can’t see, or other people can’t see you, an accident is inevitable. With significant upgrades in automotive LED lighting over the past few years, let’s look at how this technology works.
Headlight Bulb Options
Three types of headlight bulbs are available on the market today. The classic incandescent light bulb uses a tungsten filament housing a glass tube. Air is vacuumed out of the tube to prevent the filament from burning out when it glows white-hot. In the case of halogen bulbs, a halogen gas such as iodine or bromine is added to the vacuum chamber. This cases the filament to burn brighter and to last longer. The light produced by a halogen bulb is whiter than that of a standard incandescent bulb.
High-intensity discharge bulbs produce light with an electric arc rather than a filament. Metallic salts within the glass chamber increase the intensity of the electric arc to produce more light output. HID lighting systems require a high-voltage power supply to ignite the arc, then maintain roughly 85 volts of AC to the bulb.
Finally, we have LED bulbs. LED stands for light-emitting diode. These solid-state devices release energy in the form of photons when a suitable voltage is applied to the leads. LEDs have significant advantages over most other light sources. LEDs are more efficient, last longer, are more robust and emit light faster when activated. These are all direct benefits when used in automotive applications.
ODX Automotive LED Lighting
When it comes to upgrading our clients’ lighting systems, we have partnered with ODX Automotive LED Lighting. ODX LED replacement headlight bulbs are developed here in Canada and manufactured around the world to their exacting specifications. ODX uses premium LED chips like the Phillips Luxeon ZES modules for amazing efficiency and reliability. Compared to halogen lighting, ODX bulbs produce more light while consuming about 1/3 as much energy.
Headlight upgrades are available in 2500-, 3000- and 4000-lumen output variants. The 3000- and 4000-lumen bulbs are based on an aluminum housing that provides excellent heat dissipation and long life. The bulbs carry IP68 shockproof and IP65 water- and dustproof ratings so you know they will last for years. In fact, they rate the LEDs as having a 50,000-hour lifespan. If you drove all night, every night, these bulbs would last for more than 11 years.
Benefits of LED Lighting
Beyond their durability and easy installation, ODX LED lighting offers many performance features over the other options. When you turn your lights on, they will be at full intensity almost instantly. These features make LED lighting an ideal solution for high beams where flash-to-pass performance is crucial. ODX bulbs like the 4000 Series include adjustability in the bulb design to perfect the beam pattern. This adjustability ensures light is pointed exactly where you want it and not into the eyes of oncoming drivers.
